Accessibility
Furpocalypse is committed to a convention experience that’s welcoming and accessible to attendees with physical disabilities, chronic illness, and neurodivergence. There’s no application, proof of need, or minimum qualification to use our services. If you feel they’d make your weekend better, they’re available to you.
Getting Help On-Site
Rather than staffing one fixed accessibility table, our Accessibility Services team works on an on-call, roving basis throughout the convention. Help is never far away:
- Come to the Accessibility desk. Located on the 2nd floor near registration (if you make it to registration, you’ve gone too far).
- Ask any nearby staff or volunteer. They can reach our on-call Accessibility team directly and get you support wherever you are.
- Visit Con Ops / the Help Desk, our stationary point of contact. A team member there can assist you on the spot or connect you with the roving Accessibility team.
Contact Us Before the Convention
If you’d like to arrange accommodations ahead of time, or have questions about anything below, email us at [email protected]. Reaching out in advance, especially for requests that need extra lead time, helps us make sure we can support you well.
At Registration or Con Ops, you can request an accessibility badge marker (e.g., a ribbon). It lets any Furpocalypse staff member know you may need priority access, extra assistance, or a little patience, with no explanation required. You can place it wherever you like on your badge, and it doesn’t need to stay visible at all times; it’s there for when you need it.
Priority Lines & Reserved Seating
If standing in a long line is difficult, let any volunteer or staff member know. They can flag you for priority access or bring you a chair while you wait.
Panel rooms and main stage events include reserved seating for attendees who need it, located for easy access near the front and along the aisles. Fursuiters and attendees using mobility devices or service animals also receive priority access to elevators. Please help us honor this by giving them space in line.
Quiet / Low-Sensory Space
A designated Quiet Space is available throughout the convention for anyone who needs a low-stimulation environment to rest, decompress, or recharge, located at the Private Dining Room (PDR). Please follow the posted guidelines while inside so it stays a calm space for everyone using it.
Sensory Kits & Communication Aids
Free sensory and communication supplies are available at Con Ops / the Help Desk, including [list what you’ll stock, e.g., earplugs, fidgets, communication cards, interaction-preference tags, large-print maps]. Interaction-preference tags let you signal your comfort with being approached, photographed, or hugged without having to explain it in the moment.
The only em dash here was inside the placeholder, so the bracketed list still needs to be swapped for your actual kit contents before publishing.
Service Animals
Furpocalypse welcomes service animals in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A service animal must be a dog or miniature horse individually trained to perform a task related to its handler’s disability, and must remain leashed, harnessed, or otherwise under the handler’s control at all times. No registration, certification, or documentation is required.
Emotional support animals and pets, which are not individually trained to perform a specific task, do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted on the convention floor.
A service animal may be asked to leave if it is out of control and its handler does not take effective action to control it, or if it is not housebroken. If this happens, the handler is welcome to stay and continue enjoying the convention without the animal.
Hotel Accommodation Requests
If you need a specific type of hotel room, such as a particular floor, a roll-in shower, or a refrigerator to store medication, please contact [email protected] as early as possible. Requests made closer to the convention are harder to guarantee, so reach out as soon as your needs are clear.
Reporting Concerns
If you or someone assisting you experiences harassment during the convention, please report it to Con Ops or any Furpocalypse Accessibility team member right away.
We Want to Hear From You
Not every disability is visible, and no list of accommodations can cover every need. If something isn’t listed here, or you’re not sure whether we can help, reach out anyway. Email [email protected] or find us at Con Ops during the convention. We’ll do our best to work with you, and we welcome feedback on how we can keep improving.
